It’s been four years since one night changed our lives…
I lost my heart, my soul, the love of my life.
She left without a word and never gave me a chance to explain.
Was I mad? Hell yeah.
But I never stopped loving her.
So I wrote her a letter, and then another one, and then another…
Now she’s back again and I can’t help the feelings I’m having. Just like before, she’s the oxygen in my lungs and the sun in my sky.
Except, she’s hell bent on never giving me another chance.

Four years ago, Remington made one decision that changed our future.
It hurt too much to relive that night over and over again, so I ran.
I went to the city and started over, ignoring all things Remington.
But after losing my job, I have no choice but to move home.
Back to Moonshine Springs.
Back to where my heart was shattered into a million pieces.
He seems to think we stand a chance, that we can move on and be something to each other once again.
I’m not so sure I can trust him, though.
Or that I’m willing to risk the pain that comes with loving Remington.
All I can do is agree to finally read his letters and see if my heart survives.
Dear Faith,

I still miss you. Each day youโ€™re far away and I’m starting to wonder if space does make the heart grow fonder. Such a funny saying right, โ€œabsence makes the heart grow fonder.โ€ I didnโ€™t understand it until now. Your absence feels heavier. I’d hoped by now maybe you’d read at least one or two of my letters, but with the lack of response I’m guessing you’ve either moved on or you’re still not ready to talk to me. With time, I hope you change your mind.

Some of those memories I’ve already shared with you were amazing, but this one is my favorite. Our first kiss. I remember you were incredible and I couldnโ€™t take my eyes off you. I’d picked you up in my beat up truck. You’d come running out of your house to meet me. Momma Evans yelling about how you weren’t being a lady and how I should come to the door to get you instead of you running out. Let me tell you. I would’ve come to get you. Every. Single. Time.

I’d have bent over backward if it’s what you’d asked of me. Gladly. The dress you wore was a deep burgundy color. We were heading down to Bodine’s for food and dancing. I was a shit dancer, but you’d been begging me for weeks. Do you remember? You finally convinced me and I hoped obliging you would be worth one of your kisses.

Shit, I’ll admit I was nervous as hell. I remember the whole time I kept wondering if it would happen. If you’d let me kiss you. Me… Remington Cole. The guy from the wrong side of the tracks. I had nothing to offer you, but you treated me like I mattered, overlooking all the gossip.

You had a burger and fries. Insisting on dipping them in ranch instead of ketchup. I thought for sure you would eat a salad. Most girls did. But you weren’t afraid to get what you wanted. I liked that about you. Ranch on fries has become one of my new favorite things because of you. You opened my eyes to something I wasn’t bold enough to try on my own.

We spent the next hour dancing away to country songs as they lit up the old jukebox. Holding you in my arms was the best feeling. You were warm, comfortable, the perfect fit for me. The way your perfume stuck in my nostrils all night long. The way I kept eating your hair when you laid your head against my chest. I had to discreetly spit it out of my mouth and let me tell you that wasn’t easy at all. Your body fit against mine, and I wanted more. More of you dancing against me. More of you in that dress, those gorgeous legs on display.

When you leaned back, I couldn’t help it. I peeked down your cleavage. I know, I know… typical guy, but I couldn’t help it. You were hot, but not in the โ€œhot I want to tap her way.โ€ Well, that way too. But more in the I was the luckiest guy in the world because you were on my arm. And when you walked away from the dance floor to hit the bathroom, I also checked out your ass. I’ll admit it. Two words… teenage boy.

We had one hour left until your curfew when you came back from the bathroom, and I wanted to do more than keep dancing with you. I wanted you all to myself. Do you remember what I asked you to do? Sit in the bed of my truck in McCoy’s field and watch for shooting stars. I hoped we’d see one. I remember grabbing a blanket and a pillow or two and putting them in the back of the truck, hoping you didn’t notice them.

Let’s be clear, I didn’t think I’d get lucky. I’d hoped, but mainly I wanted to lay there with you in the back of my truck and make memories. We’d driven out to the field and laid there for the next half an hour before we finally did see our shooting star. I remember it like yesterday. I could’ve sworn the star had some kind of magic because the way your eyes found mine next was a way no one had ever seen me. I remember leaning in and then you leaned in too.

Next thing I knew, my lips were on yours and I remember thinking how soft they were. How perfectly they fit against mine. You tasted like mint from the gum you were chewing.
