Title: Tank (The Moonshine Task Force: Special Edition), #2
Author: Laramie Briscoe
Genre: Small Town Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 20, 2023
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author, Laramie Briscoe, comes the special edition of a fan favorite series.

Nobody writes blue collar romance like Laramie Briscoe, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the Moonshine Task Force: Special Edition Series.
This edition includes a never-before-released short story, as well as all the slices of life scenes and text messages I’ve written for this couple.
Life isn’t promised, love isn’t easy, and relationships aren’t always clean, but everyone has their soulmate who is willing to forgive when it would be better to forget.

Trevor “Tank” Trumbolt

I never thought in the blink of an eye my life could change, but it did. Cresting a hill driving to my favorite fishing spot, I was hit head-on by a teenager with no regard for anyone’s life but his own.
The recovery process has been hard, painful, and damn near beating me down.
The bright spot? Blaze.
Surviving the wreck has given me a second chance to make a life with her. Not knowing if I’ll ever be able to rejoin the Moonshine Task Force again has brought my world into focus. It’s made me realize what’s important.
Blaze. Stella. My brothers. My sister.
The ego that ran Blaze away before isn’t here any longer. What’s left is a man who’s holding his heart in his hands and a burning hope that once I’m healed she’ll still be around.

Daphne “Blaze” Coleman

There’s only been one person in the world who’s accepted me for who I am – from the fiery red of my hair and vibrant tattoos covering parts of my body to the smartness of my mouth and my desire to be matched in the bedroom.
That man is Trevor Trumbolt. When he asked me to give up my job as an EMT because he saw the dangers I face one scary afternoon, it spelled the end for us.
Now that he’s been injured, he needs my help and my love. I’ll give it all freely, but in the end I’m gonna need him to understand one thing about relationships. The give and take, love and sadness, pleasure and pain is a two-way street. He’s either in this with me or he’s not, but at the end of the day, I won’t let him boss me around.
If there’s anything that can handle the steel of a tank – it’s the heat of a blaze.

Paige Davis made a split-second decision years ago – one that made her into the woman she is today. A strong, independent executive of a private security company, she lives her life with no regrets and no apologies. Sebastian “Ash” Moreno assured his sister he’d ignore work and his business partner during her wedding weekend and Paige is the perfect reason to keep his promise. He may have no idea why the confident and beautiful Paige is interested in a nerdy programmer like himself, but he’s not going to mention she’s completely out of his league.

Back in real life, Ash discovers his company is missing a large sum of money right as it’s about to public. My Best Friend’s Triplet Brothers by Rebel Bloom

Contemporary Reverse Harem

Sara is on a 2-week vacation to participate in her best friend, Macy’s wedding. She is also recovering from a break up with a two-timing twitter pated twat waffle jerk named Milo. Throw in Macy’s triplet brothers trying to woo her.

The main character spent more time hiding or getting boinked that there really wasn’t a whole lot of substance in between, this is what can happen when reading a story from a first-person point of view. Everything is one dimensional, including the characters, and becomes so boring and it make reading the story tedious (I always wanted to use that word in a sentence). Throw in the edits I found and it becomes an okay story with no real plot and a whole lot of blah blah blah. Unfortunately this story was not worth the $2.99 I spent on it.

Book Cover
I stared at the cover for nearly 30 minutes, trying to decide what I think of it. 30 minutes! A cover should be fit the story… Well, there are triplets and a woman, great that part fits the story line. The rest of the cover is blah, I am not even sure why I bothered exploring the idea of purchasing My Best Friend’s Triplet Brothers.

Blurb Rating
The blurb is rather long and wordy, then again, I am pretty sure it was the reason I spent $2.99 on this book.

Book’s Blurb
Walking into the wrong room and catching one of my best friend’s triplet brothers in the shower was going to cost me EVERYTHING.

Especially since it was her wedding… and I was the maid of honor.

I should have turned around.
Friends never sleep with their friends’ brothers. It’s code.
Instead, Warren gave me pleasure like I’ve never experienced.
Then his brothers joined in on the fun.

Growing up, the triplets always tormented me.
I was the nerdy, awkward girl they teased.
They were arrogant jerks that made my life hell.
Naturally, I wanted nothing to do with them.

But when they touched me, my skin felt like it was on fire.
Every word they whispered in my ear was intoxicating.
I craved them more than I feared the consequences.

Now, it’s only a matter of time until my dark past comes knocking at the door,
and all of my dirty little secrets are revealed.

The Strickland Brothers may have my heart,
but do they love me enough to pick up its broken pieces?
Can I save my friendship and her wedding before it’s too late?

18+ Only. Standalone contemporary reverse harem romance with a HEA.

When you fall in love with the most unexpected person, at the most unexpected time…

Ryan “Renegade” Kepler

I’m the type of man who knows what I want. I make up my mind and stay in my lane, never veering off the course I set for myself.
Going into the military? Did it. Youngest member of the Moonshine Task Force? That’s me. Get my best friend’s older sister in bed? It was my pleasure.
Age means nothing to me. I’ve seen and done things men twice my age never will. What I want more than anything is someone to share my life with and that person is my best friend’s older sister, Whitney.

Whitney Trumbolt

Ryan is ten years my junior, but damn, being a cougar never felt as good as it did the night we spent together. Now I’m struggling with wanting things to either go back to the way they were or spend every night in his arms.
Make my wedding planning company the best in the south? Did it. Ignore the way my body trembles when I see Ryan? Epic fail. Freak out when I see a positive pregnancy test staring back at me? Complete with mascara running down my face and clutching my pearls.
Looks like things won’t go back to the way they were. There’s a man in my life that doesn’t take no for an answer. He’s the one who makes my blood run hot, cheeks turn red, and heart beat wildly within my chest. His name is Renegade.

His Wolf’s Choice by Mary Goldberger

☆☆☆

Daya left home to go to school and get away from her uncle’s closed minded and narcistic pack members. She missed her Uncle Jordan but she was done with packs then she had a class with Professor Kala. She suspected her professor was a wolf shifter and when she went to the professor home for a study group she was disappointed to confirm her suspicions. Then she learns that not all packs are like her uncle’s.

I really like most of the characters in His Wolf’s Choice, they are thought out and well developed and it’s hard to choose favorite character even the not so good characters, and believe me, they are definitely worthy of intense dislike and contempt. I notice the same thing last year when I read another book by Mary Goldberger. The difference between Second Love and His Wolf’s Choice is that Mary kept better track of all her characters in this book.

I truly like the story line, there is so much potential and originally I was going to give the story 2 stars because the version of His Wolf’s Choice that I have has a huge number of edits and when I went to the books page on Amazon to get some information for this review I noticed there was an updated version of His Wolf’s Choice. I downloaded that updated version and compared some of the edits I saw from my original version to this updated version and I noticed that the last few chapters where Kala’s name changed to Kaya was fixed and this is great and some of the punctuation errors were also fixed and that is great. Because the author is trying to improve the story, I am giving His Wolf’s Choice 3 stars, however there were still edits needed and from what I read in the updated version there were still edits needed and there are some holes that need to be filled in so that chapters don’t feel like they are incomplete or something is missing. I honestly, think that the author could use a really good group of proof readers to go through her stories with a fine-tooth comb and give her honest feed back to help her with all of that.

Heat
There isn’t really any heat to His Wolf’s Choice but I think that is because according to Amazon the reading age is 16 to 18 years of age. I think because there are bedroom scenes that are practically non graphic but still have sexual innuendo that the age line should be 18 and up. That is the mom and Grandma in me coming out, especially now that my granddaughter has seen that I have a blog.

Book Cover
The cover is interesting and probably the biggest reason I even gave this book a chance, I am glad I did. On a personal not I am grateful that this cover is tame into comparison to some of the others on my blog because when my granddaughter discovered I had a blog she asked my WHY I had a blog with a bunch of “hoochie men” on it and I had to explain that they were book covers. Of course she tells her mom and then I am asking where my 12 year old granddaughter learned the word “hoochie” while she and my daughter laugh hysterically. Oh well that’s life lol.

Blurb Rating
The book blurb is short and subtle which is interesting, I do think it needs some editing in the punctuation department. For example: who is the “he” referring to? If “he” is part of the story then maybe his name should be in the blurb… Just a thought.

Book’s Blurb
Daya moved on with her life after her mate broke their bond. Being human, she was deemed unworthy for someone like him. So, why did the man who walked in her professor’s class stirred something inside her even when she discovered the truth?

Her smell enticed him the second he walked into the room…his wolf growled in contentment. Who was this woman…and why did she call to his wolf? **

2022 In Review

In past years I have primarily stuck to books and maybe my video games, basically trying to keep it about books. This year I am not going to do that, because I want to include those other things that make me who I am and honestly, I really feel like sharing. This year has actually found me reading several books that I have already read several times; I call them my ‘go to comfort books’. I read the entire New Species series by Laurann Dohner (she is an awesome writer). I also read a few Desire, Oklahoma books from Leah Brooke again and a few others. I guess it was easier to go them because reading something new is sometimes hard especially since the fog started lifting.

For those who don’t know what the fog is, it is basically this time frame where you are just numb and to get through each day you do the most basic and/or easiest things you can do, for some it’s going to work, cooking or sleeping all the time, anything to keep you mind busy even while you are still dealing the pain and heart ache. It’s how our brains and bodies try to cope with those traumatic moments and when that fog lifts and you feel like you’re waking up it feels like you’re trying to catch up with everything. That where I am and I sometimes wish for the fog to come back, granted I was just a weepy then as I am now. I do feel like I have improved some, not much but some. I still can’t deal with car crashes. I still see the car Shanny was in and her blood on the ground in my mind every time I see a crash. It turns out lots of blood triggers some stress and anxiety, I discovered this when I had to renew my First Aide card and the video showed a lot of fake blood and it was awful, all I saw in my head was the picture of Shanny under a tarp with her blood on the ground, I had to leave the room for a bit. On the improvement part I can deal with sirens for about 5 minutes before my brain goes where it shouldn’t.

I think the biggest improvements happened after Doug and I went to a DUII Conference with our friends from MADD and found some focus on what we want to do to help prevent other people’s children from be murdered like Shanny and her friend Jake were. That weekend we learned that Kevin Gomez was released from supervised probation and he had barley been out of prison for a year, so not only did the state let him out of prison early but they removed him from supervised probation. We were so angry, still are but we are going to fight to save others from the hell that was rained down on us. Doug wants to see our state get mobile testing units like the ones in Arizona and I want to do victim impact statements any where that either teaches or employs CDL drivers and I plan on do a victim impact statement as soon as our City Counsel starts in person meetings again. I think I want to go to the local schools as well. Will it make a difference? If I don’t try then I will never know.

I was more productive in 2022 then I have been since July 2015 as far as writing reviews go, I promised myself that I would try harder to write at least one review a month and I got every month but one and some months have more then one review so that is an improvement that I am thrilled with. I have the same goal going into 2023 and hope to be at a point where I can write 2 reviews a month in 2024. I do have a new goal for 2023 for my blog, I want to do at least 2 virtual interviews with authors, I miss that and really want to do that again, the authors I have talked to in the past were so nice and it will be cool to talk to some more, and it would be amazing if I could get one of my favorite authors to agree to one.

Now that I have talked your ear off about everything else (thank you for that) I will get to the nitty gritty of the year in books based on my reading challenge on Goodreads.

My goal was 25 books, granted I felt I was over estimating myself at the time and honestly thought it was a hopeless goal. I surprised myself by reading 31 books, granted like I said early some of those were books I had read before. Out of those 31 books about half of them have reviews written for them, posted on my blog. Those 31 books equaled 4,670 pages read, that’s really not a lot of pages but I will take it because it proves I read something and something is better than nothing.

My average book length was 150 pages and my average star rating for the year was 3.7, I will strive to find more 4 and 5 star books.

My first review of the year was Second Love

The shortest book I read this year was The Troublesome Mail Order Bride

The longest book was Feral Sins

This one is always one of my favorites to learn and that is which of the books I read has the highest rating on Goodreads and this year that goes to Valiant by Laurann Dohner, I love that since Valiant is one of my favorites in the series.

Now here is the tricky one; Goodreads says my last review of the year if for Wicked Cravings but that is not the case, it is the last book of the year that I read but I wrote the review years ago. So, I honestly am not sure a little irritated with that one because that is a lie. My last posted review is actually Finding A Home by A. B. Lee, I just posted the review today, I had recorded it read on Goodreads but needed more time to write the review (With December being Shanny’s Birthday month and add in the Holidays I am sure you can understand the struggle), so my apologies for that piece of misinformation.

I think that covers most of the essentials of my year in books, there are a few other tidbits but I have already virtually talked your ear off so I will share the link to my year in books page so you can check out the rest if you like and find links to the books that interest you.

I bet Anna probably felt a bit like a yoyo, with Nicks whole go away, no wait come back moment. I think it was admirable that he wanted to honor his deal with the other Alpha but seriously, I think he should have manned up and told Anna the truth before he dismissed her. Who knows it could have made for a better, longer more 3-dimensional storyline. Unfortunately, we shall never know because for what ever reason the author pulled the book off Amazon and I am not sure why. Yes, Finding a Home needs some edits but the story line is strong with the potential to be stronger and longer and the characters were likable, well, except for the douchebag bad guys.

Heat
There is some heat in both the woods and the bedroom but it wasn’t anything like steam coming off my tablet.

Book Cover
Purple and black are two of my favorite colors.

Blurb Rating
The blurb does sell the book.

Book’s Blurb
Anna knew to stay away from anything supernatural. Covering her Fae scent with a spell and a ton of chemicals she’d gone undetected in a town full of shifters, and then someone tried to kill the Alpha’s sister. Anna was a healer, it was her gift and she couldn’t turn her back on the young She-Wolf as she lay dying. Coming to the attention of the Alpha wasn’t in her game plan. Now she had, she needed to move on.

Nick wasn’t best pleased to find a Fae in his town that he hadn’t known about. He was even less pleased to find out that she was his mate, especially as he was to blood bond with the Alpha’s daughter from another pack to secure an alliance against Boden, an Alpha determined to be King. Joining the two packs was the only way to secure their future.

Nick was determined to put his pack first. No matter what the cost, but war was coming and everyone was about to get caught up in it. And Boden had an ace up his sleeve that nobody had seen coming.

And It Begins

I had thought about this in my head for sometime and kept putting it off because I knew that if I started this one, I would wouldn’t be sleeping and there for not driving for a few days. Now it’s Veterans Day weekend and I am missing Shanny so much that I just can’t put it off any longer. She should be here either still serving her country or home enjoying a weekend of appreciation the Veterans should actually be getting daily, not just one weekend a year. Weekend that many people take as a license to party leaving me wonder how many people died like Shanny did this weekend.

With election day over and the harassment from Politian’s tapering off I want to say I am deeply disappointed in many of the outcomes from this election. We won’t discuss my disappointment my disappointment in the fact we are stuck with a democratic tampon in the Governors spot, thanks to the twitterpated voters of Multnomah County. No, I am angry that so much focus is put on gun control but not on stopping DUII crashes. People have been murdered daily by DUII drivers and yet the only thing the Politian’s can focus on is gun control. That is so hypocritical, you can’t say you care about human lives when it comes to guns and not deal with the other.

2022 is almost over and I am feeling disheartened by how little I seem to have accomplished in the goal I set last April at the DUII Conference. I had learned so much and came to the conclusion that I want to do victim impacts statements for school bus drivers and other CDL holders. We not exempt from making bad choices and they should be required to listen to victim impact statements. Before you ask why I will tell you. If a CDL driver makes a mistake or a bad decision while in their commercial vehicle someone can and/or will die. In the case of a school bus driver not only will somebody out side the bus be seriously injured/killed but the children on the bus could be injured. It is hard enough for School bus drivers to do their jobs with all those distractions the transporting up to 50 kids can bring throw in driving impaired and you have a potential major disaster on your hands. Having victim impact panels going in and talking with CDL drivers and saying “HEY YOU ARE NOT EXEMPT FROM THE RULES” could not only save a life but prevent a Commercial Driver losing their CDL privileges.

I called several truck driving schools and nothing, one actually told me they don’t have issues with impaired drivers, well of course not they are in school not on the road yet. One school said they would discuss it and get back to me and nothing. It is very discouraging to think that they seem to not put much value on what could happen after their drivers leave their schools. As trainers you would think they would want to protect their reputations, because if it is anything like school bus training that reputation could be called into question anytime something goes wrong, it why when I was train new school bus drivers, I made sure to be as thorough as possible, the last thing I wanted was for someone to ask me why I didn’t cover something in training.

My regional manager gave me the go ahead to put something together for maybe a start up meeting but that it had to be a one-person thing because of proprietary considerations. Which sucked because there are people that could come and add something that I don’t know. When I sent him my power point of what I had done so far for feedback he never responded and that is just plain wrong given what we do and how many CDL drivers are violating the standards we all work by. You can’t tell that it doesn’t matter or that it isn’t important when it clearly is. Especially when you bounce back to the whole reputation thought process. School bus companies base their reputations on students first and safety. Having drivers getting DUII’s whether it is in their own vehicle or a bus can damage the reputation of the company, it will have people questioning the hiring policies and background checks. Being proactive with training about driving impaired, doing victim impacts and information what substance cause impairment could potentially reduce the risks and save lives.

You also can’t tell me that gun control is more important than stopping impaired drivers, really why is death by gun more important than death by impaired driver, both are equally traumatic and brutal but why is one more focused on then other, why do people care so little for those murdered by impaired drivers, shoot, even the impaired driver doesn’t care that they killed someone, they don’t own what they did and try to get out of any punishment that they rightfully deserve. The victims and survivors of impaired drivers are further victimized and harassed for even wanting justice for what was done.

I am feeling pretty discouraged about I how little progress I have made but there is a bright spot that will keep me pushing along. A Carlton City Council member (up for re-election) came to my door, with another person looking for write in votes and I told her I was frustrated with something going on in our area and ready to go to a council meeting and do a victim impact statement there and point out that our police officers would be better off looking for impaired drivers then harassing local citizens about what is parked in front of their homes because of some pathetic outdated complaint-based ordinance.  The council member thought it was a great idea for me to do come to a meeting and give my impact statement. It gave me hope that something good could still happen, that is if they let me say what I need to say. I guess we will just have to wait and hope, but it will also be a start.

Kelly and Blade have been trying to have a baby with unsuccessful result until recently, but complications arise that put mom and baby in jeopardy. Blade doesn’t that Kelly can handle their life style anymore and just like in the beginning of their relationship (see book 2 of the original series) he makes decisions and choices without even comminating with her. I guess some people never learn, lol.

I felt like Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly was a more detailed book then Desire for Three: Winning Back Jesse. Not only was Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly longer it also included several other characters from the original series, Desire, Oklahoma which was nice. The addition of other main characters fills out the story line, making it a well-rounded story that covers a lot ground as well as maintains continuity between Blade’s Desire and Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly.

Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly was basically well written, I didn’t find any editing issues as I read which I was excited about, although, my husband might beg to differ because I was up late reading this story. I lost track of time because there were no edits to act as speed bumps to slow down the progress of my reading, kind of like this review (it’s currently 1:27 am). The continuity between this book and its predecessor is fantastic, plus, I like the story line which makes giving Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly 4 stars an easy decision.

Heat
Given the story line the bedroom scenes were reasonably muted but picked a bit near the end but still not a steamy as one would expect from a Leah Brooke story.

Book Cover
I am a big fan of continuity when come to series and apparently that includes book covers (who knew? Not me, until now). After looking at the cover for Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly then looking at the cover for Blade’s Desire I felt like the covers lack continuity but that falls on the publishers for using dissimilar models for the cover of Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly. Now on the flip side of that I do like the cover for Blade’s Desire: Adoring Kelly better then the cover for its predecessor Blade’s Desire which was bland and unappealing.

Blurb Rating
Blurbs are a great thing when not being used to tell practically the whole story before the reader actually dives into the actually story, just saying, less is more.

Book’s Blurb
Kelly Royal has learned the pleasure of submitting under her husband’s gentle, but firm, hand, but Blade’s interest in dominating her seems to be gone forever. Going into labor a month early scared the hell out of her, and despite Blade’s efforts, he couldn’t hide his own fear—especially when things go terribly wrong.

Unable to forget the image of her pale and unmoving form in the hospital bed, Blade can’t even imagine taking her back into his playroom, and as soon as he brings her home from the hospital, he empties the room, vowing to never dominate her again. His fragile wife has been through enough, and he can’t imagine taking her the way he did before.

Kelly, though, has other plans. She wants her husband back, and frustrated that he thwarts her attempts to take her the way he did before, she takes matters into her own hands.
